First 72 Hours

The first 72 hours after a disaster strikes are the most critical. You need to be prepared for all contingencies in this period. Safety Center Incorporated’s FIRST 72 Hours course addresses the skills needed to successfully survive without basic services for 72 hours. In class training is put to practical application in a real field exercise. It’s one thing to read about disaster training on paper, and another to experience a dynamic, realistic ‘life and death’ situation in the field.

This unique First Aid/CPR course* focuses specifically on the type of injuries most likely to occur during and after a disaster. This course covers instruction on: crushings, eviscerations, dismemberments, impalements, and compound fractures. Course content also covers correct victim transport and immobilization using available materials, bloodborne pathogens and caring for the emotional and psychological needs of victims.

Course Topics also include:

  • How to stay alive until emergency services reach you
  • What to include in your site’s disaster survival kit
  • How to set up essential camp services (triage, mess, sanitation, etc.)
  • Identifying key personnel in your company’s emergency response plan

Participants experience a simulated disaster in a controlled environment**. Students apply the information gathered during the first aid/CPR class and the classroom instruction to solve problems during this intense live exercise. Previous participants have benefitted from this portion tremendously. It is an eye opening experience that identifies key elements missing from your existing emergency response plan.

*It is recommended that participants have current First Aid/CPR training cards and, due to the interactive skill building, participants are to wear closed-toe shoes and casual, comfortable clothing for easy mobility.

** Due to the intense physical and psychological demands of this course, all students are required to sign a medical release form prior to participation.
