Excavator Trainer Upgrade

This one day upgrade program allows attendees to gain technical knowledge of wheeled (rubber tire) and tracked (crawler) units as well as mini/compact/ medium-duty units with the approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 3,000 to 50,000 lbs. (1,360 to 22,680 kg.) through classroom study and hands-on exercises. Portions of this course will take place outdoors. Trainees should bring weather appropriate clothing and steel-toed shoes if possible.

•  Types of Excavators: wheeled, crawler, mini, compact and standard types

•  Main Parts and Their Functions

•  Specifications

•  Stability and Capacity

• Getting Ready for the Job: PPE, inspections, assessing and securing the worksite

• Safe Operating Procedures

• Parking, Shutdown and Transporting

• Re-fueling

4  Pre-use inspections (hands-on)

4 Practical training & evaluation (hands-on) exercises

4 Parking and shut down (hands on)

Who should attend:

This one-day program is designed for IVES Certified Instructors and will upgrade their credentials to include the various excavators addressed.

Prerequisites:

Trainees must be IVES Certified Trainers prior to attending and should have experience working on and/or with the equipment addressed. Operator credentials are not issued during this program. Trainees will be sent an Excavator operator reference manual ("workbook"). The trainee must read the entire workbook and complete the quizzes and bring their completed workbook to the program. Completion of the workbook is mandatory and successful completion of this training program depends on it.

It is strongly recommended that trainees attend the Competent Person Excavation course that follows this program.
