Safety Center is a 501(c)3 organization founded in 1934 whose mission is to reduce injuries and save lives by providing safety education and training. We accomplish this mission by promoting lifelong safety and health through a variety of community and professional programs.

2011-2012 Board of Directors

Children: Safety Center offers a unique children’s safety program called Safetyville USA. Located in Sacramento, this miniature city sits on three and a half acres. Groups of 10-20 children (four years old through third grade) or developmentally disabled adults take a highly interactive guided tour of Safetyville USA.

They learn such life saving safety skills as how to cross a street safely; what to do in case of fire; telephone safety; how and when to dial 9-1-1; railroad crossing safety; safe and unsafe strangers; bicycle safety, child passenger restraint; and playground safety. A health and fitness tour is now available as an alternate choice for parents and teachers. Self guided tours can be arranged. Businesses can help send children to this program by “Adopting a Class.” Please call for more information.

Teenagers: Car crashes are the number one cause of teenage deaths due to limited experience and immature decision-making. Safety Center offers programs to reverse this trend. Alive at 25 helps teens identify risky behaviors and develop “what if” strategies so they can make safe, responsible driving decisions. FOCUSimulator for new teen drivers reduces car crashes by 66% by providing realistic “behind the wheel” experience so teens can practice defensive driving skills.

Alive at 25 Parent Program helps parents to understand that they have an important role in developing safe teen drivers. It provides a roadmap for introducing new skills and using a Parent/Teen Contract to monitor new drivers so they can earn driving independence.

Safety Center’s J.A.D.E. (Juvenile Alcohol & Drug Education) and Tobacco Programs change attitudes by helping youth to see the consequences of their actions and to set long-term goals so they can avoid the harmful effects alcohol and drug abuse.

Motorcycle: Safety Center offers a California Motorcyclist Safety Program, required for riders under age 21 to get a license and valuable for adult new or experienced riders. We offer this program at our Sacramento site. These motorcycle training classes teach motorcycle riders life-saving skills and techniques through a combination of classroom and on-range experiences.

Workplace Safety: Safety Center offers top quality workplace safety training throughout California, at our campus in Sacramento and in Southern California or at your place of business. We cover all types of safety training. We offer training for safety professionals (Certified Safety Management Specialist (CSMS) series of classes plus certification.) We offer hands-on classes including Confined Space Rescue and Competent Person Excavation and train-the-trainer classes including Forklift Instructor and CPR Instructor. We also offer Cal/OSHA classes for construction, general industry and agriculture as well as Fed/OSHA 10 & 30.

Alcohol & Drug: Our 12-Hour alcohol and drug course helps employees and employers deal with substance abuse issues. Training is available in English, Spanish, and Russian in 10 to 12 week courses, available through open enrollment or at your place of business.

We also offer court-referred DUI and drug diversion education in Sacramento, Stanislaus, and Yolo counties. We sell our instruction manuals and study guides to DUI program providers, outpatient programs, recovery homes, schools and private businesses.

Seniors: Safety Center offers a DMV approved Mature Driver course that reviews defensive driving skills and helps seniors adjust to the effects of aging. The 8-hour class and the 4-hour refresher are offered in Sacramento and Modesto and are also available in Spanish.
