Young Driver Facts & Resources

Every day 23 people between the ages of 16 and 24 die in a vehicle crash -2008 FARS

 


FACT  Vehicle crashes are the #1 cause of death for people between the ages of 15 and 24.

FACT  In California, 15 to 24 year olds only make up 13% of licensed drivers, yet they are involved in 23.4% of fatal collisions and 23% of injury collisions.

FACT  Crash rate is worst among 16-year olds due to limited driver experience and immaturity that often results in risk-taking.

FACT  16% of all drivers under the age of 20 years in fatal crashes were reported to have been distracted while driving.

FACT  People under the age of 25 have the highest violation rates in the seven following categories: speeding, distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, ignoring traffic control devices, not yielding to the right-of-way, improper passing and illegal turning.
