DDP1: Education Session 1
What to Do		What to Say
State the class objective.		The goal is to educate you, the client, about the physical and emotional consequences of drug and alcohol usage - and then to enable you, the client, to decide whether or not you will choose to change your drinking or using behavior and to never drink and drive again.
Explain class behavior and confidentiality.		I expect you to be courteous and respectful of your peers. I expect that you will maintain confidentiality. What you say here, stays here. I don’t want you to be afraid of speaking up. If you don’t understand something or if we simply disagree, share your thoughts and feelings with the group.
Go over “Alcohol Content of Over-the-Counter Medications” and “Medications Containing Alcohol Commonly Stocked in Most Hospitals and Pharmacies”. Explain policy about measurable amounts of alcohol.		Today’s session will cover OTC'S (Over the Counter) and prescription medications that contain alcohol. Please do not take liquid cold medications such as cough syrups or any other substance that contains a high alcohol content or is mind-altering before coming to your face-to-face or group sessions. Please remember not to step on to the grounds while there is any measurable amount of alcohol in your system. Any amount above a .00 reading is measurable. If you choose to do so, you risk being breathalyzed. If any alcohol content is present and the breathalyzer reading is positive, you will be referred back to court and/or deleted from DMV referral. Also, if you are taking any medication that may cause drowsiness, your driving may be effected possibly resulting in a DUI (i.e. driving while taking tranquilizers or pain medication). Remember to abstain from any drug or alcohol use 24 hours prior to program.

Establezca el objetivo de la clase.		La meta es educar a te, al cliente, sobre las consecuencias físicas y emocionales del uso de la droga y del alcohol - y después permitirte, el cliente, decidir a si o no elegirás cambiar tu comportamiento que bebe o que usa y nunca beber y conducir otra vez.
Explique sobre el comportamiento y la confidencia de esta clase.		Espero que usted sea cortés y respetuoso con sus compa–eros. Así mismo espero que usted mantenga confidencialidad. Lo que usted dice aquí, permanece aquí. Yo no quiero que usted tenga miedo de hablar. Si usted no comprende algo, o si nosotros simplemente no estamos de acuerdo, comparta sus ideas y sentimientos con el grupo.
Entregue información sobre el “Contenido de Alcohol, en las medicinas compradas sin recetas médica” (over-the-counter), y de las medicinas que contienen alcohol y que comúnmente existen en los hospitales y farmacias.   Explique las normas acerca de las cantidades de alcohol que pueden ser medidas al conducir.		La sesión de hoy cubrirá ”OTC” (Medicinas compradas sin prescripción) y medicamentos recetados que contienen alcohol. Por favor, antes de venir a sus sesiones quincenales, o de grupo, no tomen medicinas líquidas para la gripe, tales como jarabes para la tos o ninguna otra sustancia que contiene alto grado de alcohol o que altere su mente. Por favor recuerde no poner un pie sobre estos terrenos, mientras tenga cualquier cantidad medible de alcohol en su sistema. Cualquier cantidad arriba de .00 es medible. Si usted escoge hacerlo, usted se arriesga a tener un examen de aliento. Si el análisis de aliento es positivo, usted será devuelto a corte. También, si usted toma cualquier medicina que puede ocasionar somnolencia, como las medicinas para el dolor o sedantes, esto puede afectarle al conducir, y posiblemente resultar en, Conducir Bajo La InfluenciaÓ (ejemplo, manejar mientras toma tranquilizantes o medicina para el dolor).
